Er, well that wasn't my origional plan, but now that I think about it,being fire-proof pretty good idea. If you're okay with it, I'll use that?

Nice! Reminds me of my stuff from several years back :3
You might want to try looking up certain species to reference, even if the bird (or other creature) isn't supposed to resemble a particular species- it's still nice to be able to compare certain anatomical aspects and adapt them for your own use :)
Also I find it useful with birds to do a loose gesture of their pose first, since their expressions and such tend to effect their whole body.
